stolen moments, overheard conversation
the following is one of the reasons why i'm not a loud spoken person and sometimes speak quietly in public.
read silently and don't let people read over your shoulder.
today for lunch i overheard a conversation between two late twenty something worker bees. between bites of my vietnamese po-boy #1 spicy, i heard a theory of internet dating genius. i felt like i was being leaked privileged info. the guru in the nerve t-shirt began breaking down the science on how when you first put up a new profile it gets lots of hits but as time passes, virtual or real, the profile becomes stagnant and loses it's vitality. a profile generally has a healthy half-life of one month, professed the scholar. knowing this, his new tactic of war is to leave his profile up for two months, take it down for two months, and then re-post a new profile for another two months, thus completing the cycle. but wait, it doesn't stop there.
there can be no down time in the heady calamity that is internet dating. the next step is to diversify through a constant barrage of different internet dating websites. first he'll start with nerve, then work his way to jdate, and on to adult friend finder (i'm ad-libbing here), etc. anyway, the point is that he'll rotate his profile through the milieu of internet dating services therefore always keeping a fresh persona and dope strategy for persistent hot hits. "it's genius. genius. don't you think? i've got some really genius ideas." the alpha male always shines through.
i wanted to throw myself on him right then and there but then got too timid thinking about all the hits his profile(s) would be getting. and how he wouldn't have time for lil' ol' me cuz he'd be too busy managing his conglomerate.
this is why i sometimes don't like to talk in public. yes, i am concerned about my public persona. call me vain but i don't want the general population overhearing me and deeming me a non-virtual idiot. and i would hate to come across words i've said on someone's blog. there is little lower shame.
